Diversified
Diversified is one of the most commonly known chiropractic techniques. Characterized by a “popping”sound, this adjustment aims at restoring normal movement in the spine. Due to everyday stressors placed on the body, spinal bones may become malpositioned. As chiropractors, we are trained to detect with our hands these specific areas of the spine that are not aligned or moving properly. When a manual thrust or “adjustment” is administered to correct misalignments, gas that accumulates within the joint may be released, causing a distinct sound. Though this sound is interesting, it is not a guide to the value or effectiveness of the adjustment.
In addition to improving spinal biomechanics, diversified technique helps to decrease nerve interference that can occur when the spinal bones are not moving properly.
Flexion-Distraction
Using a specialized table that decompresses and gently stretches
the spine, Flexion-Distraction is a widely used approach to treating symptomatic disc injuries of the low back and the often-accompanying leg pain. This pain-free treatment isolates the area of disc involvement while
slightly flexing the spine through passive motion, allowing the injured disc to move away from the nearby nerve to ultimately decrease pain and
inflammation.
Flexion-distraction is considered to be the most effective in treating lumbar disc herniations, a major source of low back and leg pain, without the use of drugs or surgery. Flexion-distraction is also effective in treating several other musculoskeletal problems including spinal stenosis, facet syndrome, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. In addition, it is safe to treat those with osteoporosis, persistent low back pain after surgery, and low back pain associated with pregnancy.
Thompson/Drop Table
Using a protocol to check the change in a patient’s leg lengths, the doctor can determine if there are any misalignments in the spine and pelvis. A drop table is distinctive because it consists of moveable cushioned segments that can be slightly raised horizontally. The
piece drops when a thrust is delivered, requiring less energy and force to realign the joint. This makes drop table gentle and effective on more fragile patients such as children and those with osteoporosis.
Instrument-Assisted Chiropractic Adjustments
Using the Impulse, a patented and FDA registered device, the doctor of chiropractic can perform specific and gentle adjustments to the spine and extremities to restore function and relieve pain. This new technology is unlike traditional methods of adjusting, thus there are no popping or cracking sounds associated with this type of treatment. Both safe and effective, instrument adjusting may be used for patients of all ages.

Myofascial Release
A type of soft tissue technique, myofascial release aims at decreasing muscle spasm and adhesions that can result in pain, local inflammation, and decreased range of motion. If left untreated, muscle adhesions can lead to scar tissue. Using gentle sustained pressure, these adhesions or “trigger points” are essentially “ironed out”.
Though manual adjustments are the primary reason for an office visit, we believe that the muscle work has an important role in the outcome of treatment.
