What Should I Expect On The First Visit?
Patient History and Symptoms:
After filling out the necessary paperwork, one of the doctors will go over your past medical history and present physical condition in detail. If you have had any radiographical imaging done previously, such as X-Rays or an MRI, it is important and helpful that you bring them along to your first visit. Based on the consultation with the doctor and your current health goals, we will determine if chiropractic treatment is right for you.
The Chiropractic Exam:
If it looks promising, the doctor will perform a postural assessment as well as an orthopedic and chiropractic examination to determine the cause of your problem. This examination will consist of checking your range of motion and placing you in positions that helps to identify the source of your pain. If necessary, neurological testing may also be performed.
Diagnostic Studies:
Based on the results of the history and the examination, diagnostic studies such as an X-Ray or MRI may be ordered. Though they are not always necessary during a chiropractic exam, they are helpful in revealing any underlying pathology or structural abnormality that may exist to determine an accurate diagnosis.
Chiropractic Treatment:
With all the information obtained above, the chiropractor will explain in detail their recommendations for treatment. In most instances, the patient will receive some form of treatment on their first visit. We are happy to explain everything that treatment entails in great detail and are open to any questions or concerns you may have.
Future Visits:
In addition to regular chiropractic adjustments, treatment may also include homecare instructions and patient education to improve posture, ergonomics in the workplace and nutrition. Exercises and stretching may also be prescribed to help improve muscle balance and stability.
